ok, so strait up, i am a fan of (most of) the gundam franchise.

i be pleased the telling and re-telling of what, in the new release gundam series was obviously a derivation of the fable of World War II. for the most portion it remains the same as it always has been in terms of the record itself.

With gundam SEED however, current wrinkles such as friendly character developement and the enriched quality of story-telling which is for the most fraction only surpassed by the quality of the art (the entire series being considered to be this art) as a whole can bee seen.

The yarn of Gundam SEED: Destiny is as grand about Shin Asuka as it is about Athrun Zala and toward the extinguish of the series is distinguished more about establishing a greater notion of the strength of Athrun’s relationship with Kira Yamato (the protagonist of Gundam SEED) even in their divergent paths in their have lives, and about what it means to fight, and to have something for which to fight than it is specifically about Shin.

I enjoyed Seed Destiny both because SEED (the core note) is my popular rendition of the Gundam legend to date (out of a reminiscence for that which i care greatly) and because the sage itself is considerable darker. it is to Gundam SEED what Stardust Memory is to the unique Gundam series, more/less.

all of “our heroes” both in ZAFT and OMNI (the earth federation’s space-bourne military from whom Kira fights in SEED) have grown up, and the world has with them.

anyway, its all very refreshing, and all of the characters fit their rolls very well and for the most share are likable. i must confess, i have not seen (nor do i care to) the english dub, as it was Ugly(!) in the english release of Gundam SEED (almost all of the anime i look is either fan-subbed, or i verbalize enough japanese to follow it without subs when they arent available. generally i frown on dubbing unless mountainous care is taken, however, if the only plot you are going to experience this stout series is dubbed, so be it.

The four episodes on this disk are essentially of Shinn and Athrun getting to know each other before the major events occur later on in the series. There’s plenty of foreshadowing of what Athrun will do later on in the series within the dialogue.

Fanboys of Kira Yamato will be disapointed because in this volume his character once again takes a assist seat as opposed to the last two episodes in volume three when he took center stage. In two of the episodes on this volume he doesn’t appear at all. Anyway in the first episode we notice Cagalli yelling at Kira, Lacus, Murrue Ramius and Andrew Waltfeld for apprehending her during her wedding in the previous episode. They don’t spell out exactly what the Archangel is going to do but most fans can select a guess. The rest of the episode is basically Athrun showing up to be portion of the Minerva Crew with the Saviour Gundam. Lunamaria having a crush on Athrun is satisfied to peruse him, but Shinn isn’t thrilled at all that he must now respond him as an equal. Athrun also learns about Cagalli’s wedding and kidnapping.

The second episode is easily the best of the volume and one of the best episodes of the entire series. The three Earth forces pilots, Sting, Auel and Stella along with their leader Neo Roanoke return to defeat the Minerva. The action was salubrious! The whole position surrounding Shinn was though-provoking. He saved civilians being forced into slave labor, but he disobeyed orders. Given that is was Athrun telling Shinn off I kind of agree with what Shinn did. When Athrun was fighting the Chaos Gundam it felt like he was holding wait on, meaning he spent more time evading, dodging rather than attacking. A very friendly episode.

The third episode was really a transitional one, setting up the next episode with all the action. The scene when two crew members of the Minerva commenting on Lacus’s (Meer’s) body, how lucky Athrun is to be engaged to her and joking about how easy it would be to carve some of the Saviour Gundam’s wires with Athrun stating he could hear them was humorous. The only relevant thing to near out of this episode was the last few minutes with Shinn and Athrun conversing. Shinn points out that there’s really no reason for Athrun to be with ZAFT. Given how Athrun acts through out most of this volume Shinn makes sense. Besides Athrun being the bridge between the unusual and traditional characters for the sake of the status Athrun’s actions don’t build since till later on.

The last episode isn’t as obedient as the second but tranquil genuine fun. Being a Shinn fan doesn’t mean I don’t respond that he has flaws. I’m not a diehard fanboy, Shinn does act immature every so often. Level-headed I’d rather listen to him brag then Kira’s ‘Holier than Thou’ attitude.

Really another large volume of Gundam Seed Destiny that you must watch!

In her first film (considered one of the progenitors of French Novel Wave), La Pointe Courte (1956), Varda explores the disintegration of a relationship between a married couple (Silvia Monfort and Philippe Noiret) . In Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962), Varda confronts themes of existentialism, mortality, despair, and what it means to live a meaningful life. Her film follows two hours (in real-time) in the life of a young pop singer (Corinne Marchand) as she waits to score biopsy results from her doctor at 7 o’clock. Before her doctor’s appointment, Cléo meets with several friends and strangers in 1960s Paris, while at the same time contemplating her mortality. The film features a rep by Michel Legrand (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and cameos appearances by Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina. The Criterion edition of this film features a newly restored digital transfer, supervised and celebrated by director Agnès Varda, “Remembrances” (2005), a documentary on the making of the film, featuring interviews with Varda and actors Corinne Marchand and Antoine Bourseiller, a gallery of paintings by Hans Baldung Grien, whose work inspired the character of Cléo, an excerpt from a 1993 French television program featuring Madonna and Varda talking about the film, “Cléo’s Genuine Path Through Paris” (2005), a short film retracing, on a motorcycle, Cléo’s steps through Paris, “Les fiancés du pont Macdonald” (1961), a short film directed by Varda, featuring some of her fresh wave colleagues, with Varda explaining why the film was featured in Cléo, “L’opéra Mouffe” (1958), an early short by Varda, with a catch by Georges Delerue, the theatrical trailer, original and improved English subtitle translation, and a current essay by Adrian Martin and a written introduction by Agnès Varda.

3. Le bonheur (Happiness) .

In Le bonheur (1965), Varda confronts issues of fidelity and happiness in a fresh, self-centered world. The film tells the yarn of a young husband François (Jean-Claude Drouot) who embarks on an affair with an ravishing postal worker, despite the fact that he is married to the dazzling Thérèse (Claire Drouot) . The Criterion edition of this film features a newly restored high-definition digital transfer, supervised and favorite by director Agnès Varda, “The Two Women of ‘Le bonheur’” (2006), a short allotment featuring actors Claire Drouot and Marie-France Boyer, thoughts on “Le bonheur” (2006), a discussion between four scholars and intellectuals discussing the belief of happiness and its relation to the film, two short pieces by Varda investigating people’s concept of happiness, “Jean-Claude Drouot Returns” (2006), a featurette in which the actor revisits the film’s setting forty years later, a segment from the 1964 television program Démons et merveilles du cinéma, featuring footage of Varda shooting Le bonheur, an interview with Varda from 1998 about Le bonheur, “Du Côté de la côte” (1958), a short film by Varda exploring the tourist destination of the Côte d’Azur, the theatrical trailer, and unusual and improved English subtitle translation.

4. Sans toit ni loi (Vagabond)

In the best film in the collection, Vagabond (1985), Varda chronicles the life of a young, enigmatic drifter Mona (Sandrine Bonnaire), found frozen to death in a ditch at the beginning of the film. From this image, the film goes backwards in time to depict Mona’s transition from an office worker to her life of a wandering vagabond, free from any responsibility. The unique French title, “Sans toit ni loi,” translates as “without roof or law.” The Criterion edition of Vagabond includes a newly restored high-definition digital transfer, supervised and accepted by director Agnes Varda, “Remembrances” (2003), a documentary on the making of the film, including interviews with Sandrine Bonnaire and other cast members, “The Yarn of an Old-fashioned Lady” (2003), a short section in which Varda revisits actress Marthe Jarnias, who plays the broken-down aunt in the film, “Music and Dolly Shots,” (2003), a conversation between Varda and composer Joanna Bruzdowicz, a 1986 radio interview with Varda and writer Nathalie Sarraute, who inspired the film, the theatrical trailer, unusual and improved English subtitle translation, and a recent essay by Chris Darke and written introduction by Agnes Varda.

This 4 disc box position by Criterion contains four movies by Agnès Varda.

La Pointe Courte, Cleo from 5 to 7, Le bonheur, and Vagabond. Cléo from 5 to 7 and vagabond are releleases and I have already written reviews for those when they were released separately, I will be more brief on the reviews.

La Pointe Courte is Varda’s first film and is about a couple in coastal southern France experiencing marital woes. The film is opinion to have inspired the novel wave movement in French cinema and is one of her most well-liked films. The special features are an interview with Agnès Varda and scenes from a 1964 French television appearance by Varda.

Cléo from 5 to 7 is about a young woman who strolls around Paris for two hours while she awaits the results of a biopsy. The film was plot ahead of its time for it being in real-time impartial like the television series 24 or the film “Phone Booth.”

The special features are a theatrical trailer, a 2005 documentary on the film’s production titled “Remembrances” It focuses on continuity isues for the real-time sequence fo the film including the clocks which are seen various times in the film, a plug explain of Hans Baldung paintings which inspired the title character of the film, a 1993 television special featuring Agnès Varda and Madonna, a short retracing Cléo’s shuffle through Paris on motorcycle, the 1961 short by Varda titled “Les fiancés du pont Macdonald” which was featured in the film, and Varda’s short film “L’opéra Mouffe”.

Vagabond released in France as “Sans toit ni loi” is about a homeless woman who is found expressionless at the beginning of the film and is a flashback ogle at the last days of her life.

The special features are a theatrical trailer, a docomentary on the film’s production, a see at the actress Marthe Jarnias, who plays the weak lady in the film, a conversation between Varda and the film’s composer, Joanna Bruzdowicz, and a 1986 radio interview with Varda and writer, Nathalie Sarraute.

Based on the hit Tennessee Williams play, this titillating drama stars Paul Newman as a slick young opportunist who returns to his home town with an ageing movie queen(Geraldine Page), but runs head-on into danger with the town’s unfavorable boss(Ed Begley in an Oscar-winning performance) . As is the case with his 1958 film version of Tennessee Williams’ CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, director Richard Brooks was forced to dapper up this Williams play for the movies. But those blasted censors didn’t distress anything. Like CAT, SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH is peaceful a gritty, much, and gleaming film. Every one of the performers delivers a kindly portrayal. But the film ultimately belongs to Geraldine Page whose comic and touching portrayal of the fading star is, quite simply, one of the greatest performances ever captured on film.

As in her portrayal of Alma in Tennessee Williams’ “Summer and Smoke,” Geraldine Page is electrifying, recreating the role she originated on Broadway. This time, however, she has a leading man edifying of her talents. Paul Newman proves he has more than his looks to rely on; it is to his credit that Page never overshadows him in their extended scenes together. The rest of the cast is suited as well. The film itself strays from Williams’ stage version (which included such topics as venereal disease and castration) in several respects, but also has some challenging additions, especially the scene between Ed Begley and Madeleine Sherwood. But the accurate reason to peep this film is for Geraldine Page — what an actress. She is missed.

I glean it intelligent that this film’s reviews reveal a wide range of concept. The premise is an queer one: blend the outmoded Chicken Dinky tale (a runt chicken gets hit on the head by an acorn, believes the sky is falling, panics, incites dread in others, and becomes a laughingstock) with, of all things, H.G. Wells’s “War of the Worlds”!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chicken Little! Click Here

In this hybrid, Chicken Cramped, voiced annoyingly well by Zach Braff, is hit on the head, creates a awe, becomes a laughingstock, and then tries to accept his social plot amongst the other “kids” (all different kinds of animals), plus tries to net his loving father’s respect. His father, voiced paternalistically perfectly by Gary Marshall, is a single father, who loves his only child, but he was also deeply embarrassed by the sky-is-falling fiasco.

Chicken Microscopic has three friends: Limited, an expansive piglet with self-esteem issues, voiced neurotically well by Steve Zahn; Abby “Plain Duckling” Mallard, who is a cornucopia of well-intentioned and sometimes reasonable pop psychology advice, voiced offbeatly by Joan Cusack; and Fish Out of Water, an irrepressibly contented itsy-bitsy fish wearing a diving helmet filled with water, voiced perfectly unintelligibly by Dan Molina. The quartet are busy trying to survive school, watch pressure, crude social ranking, and frequent embarrassments, and are doing quite well at it. There are also some very excellent voice-cameos: Don Knotts as Mayor Turkey-Lurkey, Patrick Stewart as the teacher, and Frank Willard as the “visitor” father.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chicken Little! Click Here

And then, the unthinkable happens: the sky falls on Chicken Little’s head again, one year after the first incident. Chicken Microscopic, and then his friends, realize that this is actually a Halt Encounter of the Third (or Fourth? ) Kind, that evolves into a full-scale alien invasion, because of a moment of parental distraction and a immense misunderstanding. Can the quartet keep the world and avoid an unnecessary interplanetary war? Can Chicken Itsy-bitsy salvage his father to own in him? Those two issues are inextricably interwoven.

The sage is fine off-the-wall, but is fun to recognize, and lends itself to lots of action and interaction. The father-son swear, and the parent-child grunt, are dealt with nicely. I feel that the animation is very genuine, and harkens attend to classic cartoons of yesteryear. The colors were shimmering, and there was astronomical attention to detail (e.g., the traffic light was speed by a chameleon, who changed color along with the imprint being held up) . I very distinguished liked how the different animal citizens of Oakey Oak acted somewhat like people, but also retained their natural, realistic aspects (e.g., the dog family did eat in a restaurant, but ate their food fair out of a bowl, and lapped up their beverages) . Even the vehicles driven by the animals were customized to each species, and the vehicles seemed to be fair as distinguished alive as their passengers.

Among the special features of the DVD, you can peek most of the actors doing their voiceover performances. And, instead of offering us alternative endings, we can observe three alternative openings to the yarn, including one where Chicken Cramped is a girl instead of a boy.

Is this a valid, fun film for younger children and for families with young children? I consider it is. Will it appeal to teenagers? Probably not. Will parents acquire any objectionable in it? I highly doubt it. Will adults be pleased it as grand as, say, “Shrek” or “Ice Age”? No, the humor does not strike different levels like it does in those films. But, adults will probably indulge in it for at least one viewing, and smile a lot.

I have to add that the one character, Fish Out of Water, is one of my well-liked involving characters ever. I found him to be irresistibly likeable. Mom, can I have one? I promise to rob care of him! Please!

I took my 7 year obsolete son and 5 year ancient daughter to this movie thinking it was going to be a plain kids movie. Boy was I surpised when I laughed fair as noteworthy as my kids, may be more. There was adult humor and songs from my past that went just by them but was very amusing to me!

“Tristan Und Isolde” is doubtless one of the greatest operas ever written. Unfortunately it has been very badly served by the currently available productions on DVD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wagner - Tristan und Isolde! Click Here

The Nilsson/Vickers from Orange is ruined (as usual from Kultur) by a very abominable technical production and accomplish.

The Heppner/Eaglen from the Met has two principals who cannot act convincingly; although Heppner can really lisp the share. Eaglen’s reveal leaves a colossal deal to be desired and her physical limitations prevent her from grand in the arrangement of physical action. Neither of them examine even remotely the plot I am clear most of us have pictured Tristan and Isolde to have looked.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wagner - Tristan und Isolde! Click Here

The West/Meier from Munich is a travesty. The setting is objective wearisome dumb, given what the text calls for; and West not only fails to deny convincingly, but he cannot act and looks even less like Tristan than Heppner. What is so frustrating is the ruin of Waltraud Meier who has the acting and singing ability and the looks; and the slay of Kurt Moll who is a beneficial King Marke.

The Treleaven/Polaski from Barcelona is also heinous by a funny production and less than stellar singing from the principals. They are the same cast as was aged in the Barcelona Kupfer II “Ring”, and I truly hated Treleaven and Struckmann there, as well as here.

I am writing this review now, despite not having seen this production for almost a year (since I found out that it would be rereleased as a DVD), because I want to allotment my huge enthusiasm for it. It is based on my recollection of my noteworthy cherished Video. I have waited a long time for this rerelease as a DVD, and I am definite that DGG, unlike Kultur, have done their usual mountainous technical transfer. It is a Bayreuth production from the early 1980’s.

Jean-Pierre Ponnelle has designed a simple, but effective non-gimmicky area. The first act takes plot on the deck of a stylised sailing ship, the second in the woods under a stout stout canopied tree, and the third under a wearisome, split, blasted tree. The direction is tight and, with one valuable exception at the ruin, is factual to the text. I will not give it away other than to advise that up to then it was such a straight interpretation that Ponnelle probably could not resist putting at least some personal twist to it. Mind you, considering what was going on with Mathilda Wesendonck at the time, perhaps this is what Wagner might have subconsciously intended.

Under the conducting of Daniel Barenboim, the music is splendidly interpreted. It is obvious, layered, and sharp. This certainly came across on my video, and I am certain that in surround sound it will be even better.

And the acting and singing and appearance of all the characters is an unalloyed joy. René Kollo as Tristan, Matti Salminen as King Marke, Hermann Becht as Kurwenal and Hanna Schwartz as Brangane.

However, this is a tour de force by Johanna Meier. She embodies all that I had pictured Isolde to be. She is delicate, she sings — my God, she sings — and she expressively acts with the grace of a dancer. So far as I know, this is the only recording of her. What a loss.

For alarm of getting even more carried away, I had better end here; other than to space that I wish I could give it more than five stars.

But if you want a “Tristan Und Isolde” that is the gesamptkunstwerk I am clear Wagner had in mind (and possibly even with this ending) this is it!!

It is so transformative to experience Tristan und Isolde done by a director who understands the mythic dimensions of this fraction and who obviously loves the volcanic force this music. There are no directorial banalities here to undermine the music. It is great theatre and noteworthy music.

Johanna Meier is shapely as Isolde. She has power, lyricism, vulnerability, looks, musicality. It is too unpleasant that this gigantic artist’s career was undervalued and underappreciated.

Rene Kollo is improbable and has sizable chemistry with Meier. The arrangement he listens to King Marke’s monologue in Act II is heart breaking. Matti Salminen’s Marke is an emotional tour de force and a psychological revelation.

Like the other reviewers here, I endorse this DVD enthusiastically. There is no other version of this opera on DVD that compares to this. AND THAT IS THE TRUTH.

Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle

Buy,Download, Or Stream Dragon Ball Movie Box Set! Click Here

STORY: B-

The narrative is humdrum awful, Son Goku and Kuririn are instructed by the perverted Muten Roshi to do a sleeping princess from the Devil’s Hand. As Son and Kuririn fight each other until they both realize the only scheme to survive is to fight together. After Son Goku shows Kuririn mercy and compassion by saving his life, he agrees. Then Bulma and the gang derive into the adventure as soon as they ask Muten Roshi were Goku is. Bulma gets kidnapped by Lucifer. Lunch also joins the battle as she tries to procure the sleeping princess. When Son Goku finally finds Bulma and the gang is reunited, they realize what they may be looking for, may waste up killing them. Yeah, then you’re classic Shonen anime ending.

Art: A (for 1989 the art is heavenly well-kept)

I’m obvious some might be saying that the art for this movie sucks, but believe, this movie is from the slack 80s. Compared to most anime and cartoons of this time, this art is gorgeous. Although to the watch of a unique fan, this art is grainy and really icky.

Dubbing: C+

The account is intact, the puns and jokes that were changed were based on 80s and Japanese culture so that was vital, the voices are so-so. The incredibly catchy first 13 episode theme song for the English version was feeble, but that kind of bugs me, they kept everything except the theme song. Lucifer’s suppose isn’t as Dracula like as I understanding FUNImation would build it. That’s reliable. Bulma sounds a lot like a snob, Son Goku sounds radiant childish and not that confident at all, everyone else is prety wonderful. Muten Roshi’s remark actor doesn’t sound that strong as it is in the next movie.

Subbing: A-

The subs for the Japanese version are favorable. Yamucha, Kuririn, Lunch, Former Man Roshi, ect. were obsolete for names except for one name. For some reason, Steven J. Simmons always translates Son-kun to Goku, and Son Goku to Goku, completly ignoring Goku’s last name.

Overall: B, Son Goku and Kuririn’s fresh adventure to become Roshi’s students was hardly any better than this one anyway.

Dragon Ball: Mystic Adventure

This is combining Tournament, Lietenuant Blue, Tienshinhan, Red Ribbon Army sagas.

Story: A

Son Goku and Kuririn have finally completed their training and bag to fight in the championships hosted by Emperor Chaozu. Around the same time, Pilaf has finally completed his Dragon Radar. Shen and Tao take the method and shroud away Chaozu’s wife so Chaozu thinks that he can bring his wife wait on by gathering the Dragon Balls. Chaozu has no conception what he is putting himself into. All of Chaozu’s men belief on using the Dragon balls to steal his kingdom over. Bulma, Yamucha, Puar, and Oolong are also searching for the Dragon Balls and wind up at the Championships to derive the Dragon Balls from Chaozu. Upa and Bora also join the tournament because it was the only to avoid death. Son Goku, Kuririn, and Muten Roshi try to attend Bora acquire the tournament so Chaozu can learn the truth about what his soldiers are doing. As soon as Tao gets into the tournament, Bora is knocked into a statue and is stupid. Son Goku became so angry that he charged Tao unprejudiced to have all of his attacks be blocked, including the Kamehameha. Tao knocks Goku using the Dodonpa. As he searches Bora for the Dragon Ball, he realizes Goku had it and tracks him down. Clearly outmatched, Son Goku is assisted suddenly by the robot girl Arale and he ‘father’ Senbei. By combining their uncommon powers, they defeat Tao. Son Goku flies support to the Tournament unbiased in time to view Upa being strangled to death. Son Goku kicks the giant robot in the gut. Shen is now cornered by Tien and Chaozu, but Chaozu has lost all hope of living and Tien is confused should he support loyalty to his master, or his king and best friend? Tienshinnhan uses his original attack against Shen and the gang has all the Dragon Balls, Upa and Goku smile.

Art: A

*same reasons as above*

Dubbing: B-

The suppose actors finally have a hang of things, and Bulma has a original insist actor. But, a lot of dialouge has been changed. The tale remains intact anyhow.

Subbing: A

Steven J. Simmons is perfect, he uses Son Goku and Son-kun now. The incredibly peculiar repeated words, well to English speakers anyhow, are ignored. Otherwise the subs are perfect.

Overall: A=

Dragon Ball: The Path to Power (The Road to Ultimate Strength)

This movie takes The Saga of Goku/Emperor Pilaf, Red Ribbon, and General Red seasons and puts them into one 82 shrimp movie. This movie was made in 1996 in Japan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dragon Ball. In America, it has no such connection.

Story: A+

Emperor Pilaf always was a tiring, enemy compared to the Red Ribbon Army. Son Goku is an orphan with unbelievable strength, ect. we know the yarn, which is why this deserves an A+.

Art: A

The art is as righteous as art gets. The animation is solid, the characters are murky, and all of that other stuff that Toei usually misses weren’t prove. This would’ve been perfect if Son Goku wasn’t constantly changing his outfit between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT every other frame! It seems that for most of the action sceens and sceens before fights wreck out, Goku is in his Dragon Ball GT outfit. This outfit was aged for this movie as a type of advertisment for the share of crap Toei was to release one year later.

Dubbing: A

The dubbing is valid. The unique audio track was weak, including the respectable song My Heart is Charmed Everytime I Glimpse that Pleasing Smile (translated, it is so powerful shorter in Japanese) . Most of the lines are the same, but for some reason, FUNImation doesn’t utilize the more kid noble lines for many Bulma sceens in this movie, guess it was because they seemed so 90s. Unigame lines were changed to tortise jokes, Son Goku doesn’t know his grandfather is wearisome. That’s sparkling great it.

Subbing: A+

Ha-chan, Son-kun, Yamucha, Pue-ru, Nyoibu, Kinto Un, ect. and other names/namepuns were musty in the subtitles. Most repeated words were repeated, it’s all there. It seems that the 10th anniversary of a phenomenon is what makes people work their hardest.

Overall: A

Before you slam me, hold in mind I am definitely not giving Phil Hartman’s talent a less-than perfect rating (I would give him 10 out of 10 stars, if I were rating that) or his performances on SNL as a whole a sub-par rating (10 out of 10 stars again, if that were the case) .

I fair felt that this collection didn’t do him the justice he deserved. There was some enormous stuff in here, such as him as Barbara Bush, The Sinatra Group (where as Sinatra, he hilariously puts down his ‘guests’ Billy Idol, Sinead “Uncle Fester” O Connor, and Luther Campbell, played by Sting, Jan Hooks, and Chris Rock) Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Bill Clinton, and more. After watching it, however, I did feel like they could have done a better job putting it together-there were sketches that I really had to wonder what they were thinking (such as the beheading one) when they included them instead of more of PH as Ed McMahon, or even more Sinatra. After it was over, my husband said he felt like he was watching “The Best of Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman”, since she seems to play a more prominent role in some of the bits they include than he does. I should location in all fairness that I was never a immense fan of hers, and was relieved when left the cast. But even if she didn’t irritate me, this should really be a tribute that focused more closely on Hartman. I agree that they (Hooks and Hartman) worked closely together (for example, she played Hilary to his Bill) so it would have been hard not to have her appear at least fraction of the time. I objective wanted less of her and more of Hartman.

At first, I didn’t especially like the short film they ended it with (Hooks plays an elderly star who goes to her safety deposit box to try on her prized jewelry collection, and we flash serve to her as a young woman, dancing with Hartman in a glamorous Astaire/Rodgers type musical) the first time I watched it, but upon repeated viewings, the ending really grew on me and I found it very touching and fitting. It is so well-done and romantic that it probably would gain me choked up a limited bit even if Hartman was smooth alive, but since his tragic destroy, it really is poignant to the point where I gather teary objective thinking about it. At the risk of sounding really sappy, his death was so repulsive and unexpected that I calm hard to beget sometimes that he is gone. This video collection is trustworthy, but unbiased seems as though it was slapped together too rapidly (with the better organized Farley tribute, I regain the feeling they already had attach the whole thing together and ready to go months before he passed away-they aired it what, 2 weeks after he died) . I am certain everyone alive to in the making of this collection was aloof emotional and shaken up after Hartman’s death, and were maybe so dim (he was especially well-loved among everyone that worked on the show-I have never heard anyone ever say anything negative about him before or after he died) that they didn’t have their hearts in it to do the best job possible. I enjoyed it, but felt it was too short and left out too grand…though it’s a long shot, I’m hoping for a volume 2, a second, better-organized collection.

This volume clearly shows how wonderfully new Phil Hartman was. My popular skit on this DVD was Unfrozen Cave Man Lawyer. I would like to notice at least another volume or two from the SNL archives on Phil. I don’t gain they even scratched the surface of his best past performances. Some of the videos shown here were unprejudiced snippits of performances.
